Míchel Salgado, a former right-back for the legendary "Galácticos" Real Madrid who won the Champions League twice, is now the new head coach of Democrata Futebol Clube (Serie D) in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

In an interview with ESPN, Salgado discussed why he accepted this unique offer and what he can bring to the team starting in 2027.

Salgado stated: "From the beginning, the club president worked very hard to sign me. He invited me to Montes Claros to visit the team's facilities."

"This is a young team, and everyone is very eager to make a difference. I thought about it for a long time, but I wanted to experience a great competition like the Campeonato Mineiro, and I also wanted to have this experience in a country and on a continent where football is seen as a way of life."

Salgado added: "We have currently only reached an agreement for the Campeonato Mineiro, and we will remain humble, work hard, and enjoy this experience."

Salgado also revealed that he received congratulations on joining the team from former teammates and former Brazilian internationals who won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002.

Salgado said: "I've always stayed in touch with Roberto Carlos, and recently I received congratulatory messages from Dida and Edmílson."

When asked about the tactical style he hopes to implement at Democrata, the Spaniard shared his ideas but also emphasized that he must humbly adapt to Brazilian football.

He said: "I learned from many coaches, and of course, I have my own Spanish football style, but I need to adapt to Brazilian football. We are a Brazilian team, and we will try to bring something new, but without changing the team's original style and understanding of football."
