According to Sport news, Xavi has earned the players' trust since taking over as Netherlands team manager.

After impressive performances in the Nations League—defeating Germany and Serbia—the Catalan coach has also won over Dutch players with his direct communication style and clear football philosophy. Defender Cody Gakpo told reporters in an interview before Friday's match against Greece: "He is very honest and open with everyone. I think that shows on the pitch." Xavi praised his team in return, saying: "When he has the ball, he can change the game. He can play anywhere in midfield or attack. He has the potential and quality to become a top-class player."

Xavi and his players have built strong understanding from the opening minutes. Regarding the upcoming Greece match at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Athens, Xavi expects a difficult night. "They are a very tough team to face and technically skilled. They beat Serbia and played well against Germany. Particularly in their attacking options, they have significant strength and quality," Xavi said. He is aware this will be a different experience from the Belgium trip.

Xavi reflected: "I've played here before. That stadium has one of the best atmospheres I've experienced on a football pitch. Since Greece is top of the group, they will be motivated to attack. We can expect an intense match with a great atmosphere. This will be a major boost for our players." While Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined with injury, Xavi is confident the squad has sufficient options to cover his absence. "We have 23 players and plenty of alternatives. We have enough players to replace him," Xavi said. Timber is the most direct replacement option. The Arsenal defender faced physical issues at the start of the international break but played as a substitute against Serbia. Xavi noted: "Now he has enough fitness to play the full 90 minutes."

Another possibility is shifting captain Virgil van Dijk to the right side. "That's an option too, and he can definitely play there. I've discussed this possibility with him," Xavi said. While Van Dijk previously expressed preference for playing center back—noting "If the team needs me elsewhere, I will play there without hesitation"—he remains flexible in his approach.
