Commentator Daniel Riolo sharply criticized Ronaldo's departure from the Portugal national team camp on Wednesday, suggesting that the unexpected incident was unsurprising and could signify the end of the star's international career. He stated that he had always believed Ronaldo had gone mad, "left the planet," and was living in another world.

A sad ending for a legend. Just as Messi was set to bid farewell to the Argentina national team as a hero, Ronaldo slammed the door shut on the Portugal national team. The 41-year-old forward was benched for the UEFA Nations League match against Norway, which the team won 2-1. He was deeply upset after warming up but not playing a single minute. Although a conversation with the Portuguese Football Federation president and head coach had eased tensions, Jorge Jesus's press conference before the Denmark match caused Ronaldo to completely erupt.
He openly clashed with the coach, feeling disrespected, and subsequently boarded a private plane back to Madrid, promising to explain everything publicly soon. Daniel Riolo believes this was an extremely damaging incident for the Portuguese star's image, and he disagreed with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner's conduct.
"I don't know what the Portuguese think about this, but we're watching a spectacle. It's ridiculous, absurd! Everything that happened is outrageous," the commentator said on RMC's "After Foot" show on Wednesday. "This guy has messed up his farewell so badly, it's unbelievable. I expected it, I knew this would happen. But seriously... this guy is really crazy!"
Jorge Jesus Refuses to Give Ronaldo Special Treatment
The 2016 European Championship was Portugal's first major title, followed by two UEFA Nations League trophies. Ronaldo is both Portugal's most capped player (234 appearances) and all-time leading scorer (146 goals). However, Jorge Jesus emphasized at the press conference before the Denmark match in Copenhagen that he was the only coach in the team, not Ronaldo.
It didn't matter that the two had worked together for a season at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, nor did the prestige enjoyed by the 41-year-old veteran.
"He's already on another planet, not with us"
In Daniel Riolo's view, the star aura of the former Real Madrid and Manchester United player built pressure before this turbulent end to his international career. Due to his special status, Ronaldo had always enjoyed special treatment, but according to the "After Foot" panel, he had consequently lost touch with reality. For Riolo, the current conflict was by no means accidental.
"This was predictable. This guy left the planet years ago. He lives in another world," Daniel Riolo continued on RMC after Wednesday's incident. "I've always thought he's been mad for years. Just look at his social media accounts—I think he's in the same category as Elon Musk and those types of people, the transhumanists. He's already in another galaxy, not with us."
He continued: "Clearly, his teammates can't coexist with him anymore; he's no longer a normal person like us. He sees himself as someone else, as a superhero or something. I've always believed things would end this way. Even if he hasn't officially announced it, this conduct means the Football Federation and Jorge Jesus can't simply overlook it; they have to tell him that his behavior is too serious."
