According to reports from Sport, João Felix, who currently plays for Al Nassr, hopes to return to Barcelona as a free agent next summer. Mendes has informed Barcelona that the player wants to join the Champions League club.

João Felix is experiencing one of the greatest comeback stories in football. After several years of loans and transfers during which he struggled to find consistency, the Portuguese player rediscovered his form in Saudi Arabian football and unexpectedly became a key figure for Portugal's national team. The 27-year-old has regained his shine, and his market value has soared.

João's contract with Al Nassr expires on 30 June, and he knows he will return to European football. He wants to join a Champions League team to stabilize his career, and his biggest dream is to return to Barcelona as a free agent. His agent, Jorge Mendes, has conveyed this idea to Barcelona for next summer. Although competition for the striker position at Barcelona is intense, it remains a market opportunity.

João Felix's time at Barcelona was not entirely successful. He arrived when the club was in difficult circumstances, and he was not actively sought by head coach Xavi Hernández, who never fully trusted him. He joined on a one-year loan from Atlético Madrid but never secured a regular starting position. Although there were some bright moments throughout the season, Barcelona refused to activate the purchase clause. This signing was more a club-level decision than a coaching request, as president Joan Laporta was fond of him. Ultimately, Felix made 44 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 10 goals and providing 6 assists, but his inconsistent performances prevented him from staying.

Since then, João Felix has matured considerably. He later joined Chelsea, where he barely got playing time during one of the most difficult periods the London club has experienced in recent years. Nevertheless, Chelsea purchased his contract and bound him with a long-term deal until 2031. Eventually, in 2025, he decided to embark on his Saudi Arabian journey, playing alongside his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, and has now become one of the top stars in the Saudi league.

The striker has found his ideal position, playing more centrally and with significantly more minutes. He never liked being confined to the wing, as he needs to be closer to goal. As a result, his statistics have improved dramatically, not only has his goal tally returned, but his assists have become more crucial. At Portugal, new coach Jorge Jesus knows him well and has trusted him to lead the national team, rather than Ronaldo. This greatly displeased the former Real Madrid player, who became so angry that he left the national team training camp and began considering retirement from international football altogether.

In a recent interview with AS, João Felix stated that it is time to return to Europe and expressed his deep affection for Barcelona: "Since I was a child, I always wanted to play for Barcelona, and although it was only one year, it fulfilled my dream." In fact, the Portuguese player was almost determined to push for the loan, aiming to leave Atlético Madrid on more financially favorable terms.

João Felix's greatest obsession is returning to Barcelona and proving his worth. This is very similar to the Cancelo situation. For the fullback, Jorge Mendes successfully arranged his return to Barcelona on very favorable terms, even when it seemed impossible, and now he wants to replicate this operation for João Felix. Mendes also achieved a similar outcome for Adeyemi, a player who requested to join Barcelona but surprisingly ended up signing elsewhere. Clearly, João Felix is not Barcelona's top priority, but with economic difficulties that will make acquisitions very challenging for Barcelona next summer, João could join for free and is willing to accept a significant wage cut. He also represents a type of striker that Barcelona currently lacks in their squad. It remains to be seen how this develops.
