According to TyC Sports, Chelsea goalkeeper E. Martinez stated that after losing the World Cup final, he decided to transfer to find new motivation, believing it was the best decision he could make.

E. Martinez explained that he was going through a difficult psychological period and needed a change of environment. "I needed some time to get over that experience. Losing the World Cup final really hurt me, and I felt that changing to a different team might help me find new motivation."

E. Martinez said he felt good after transferring to Chelsea and had rediscovered an important sense of purpose. He added, "In the end, I successfully changed clubs, and I think that was the best decision I could have made. Now I feel important again, my reactions are sharp, and I'm in excellent form."

Juventus had pursued E. Martinez during the summer transfer window before turning to other goalkeeper targets.
