Former Liverpool player Didi Hamann was interviewed by Sky Sport Germany, where he discussed his old club, Wirtz, and the current situation at Manchester City.

On his former club Liverpool and the Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester City in the 6th round
That was the longest and most successful period of my career, at Liverpool. Therefore, among all my former clubs, Liverpool holds the biggest place in my heart. I would say, across all of England, this is probably the most important match right now.
On the allegations of Manchester City's financial irregularities
This could certainly have an impact, because there's already talk of forced relegation. So, in my opinion, at the very least they will face a very severe points deduction, which could ultimately lead to relegation. Of course, currently, the players and their agents will be in very close contact with the Manchester City management, because this will obviously affect all the players.
On Wirtz and what he still needs to become a truly decisive player
He needs to assist and score goals, and he does too little of that, or not frequently enough. However, I often feel that for a player like him, you also have to give him a certain amount of freedom, so he can sometimes stand there and not have to participate too much in defense. Because my feeling is that he invests a bit too much in tracking back, which might make him lack some focus when he has the ball, or even some energy and that last bit of physical reserve, and having the ball is precisely where he is most dangerous.
Of course, at Bayer Leverkusen, he has that privilege. He can choose whether or not to participate in defense. But at Liverpool, he doesn't have that status yet. So for me, the balance in his game is one of the biggest issues. And he also needs a coach who can protect and support him, while also telling him: "Listen, we have to create the conditions for him and take some of the burden off him."
