According to Cronachemaceratesi.it, Materazzi discussed his relationship with Benítez at the Overtime Festival, stating that Benítez held a prejudice against him because he reminded him of Mourinho.

During his appearance at the Overtime Festival at the Lauro Rossi Theater in Macerata, Materazzi reflected on certain moments from his career. He discussed his relationship with Rafael Benítez, noting that Benítez struggled to gain acceptance in the Internazionale dressing room after succeeding Mourinho, who had led the team to a treble. Materazzi said: "Mourinho always connected with everyone and would always pat you on the shoulder. You'd go through hell and high water for him. Conversely, Benítez had a negative impression of me from the start because whenever he saw me, he thought of Mourinho."

Materazzi also recalled an incident during Leonardo's time as Internazionale coach. Before a derby, he suggested to Leonardo that Lúcio, who had a yellow card, should sit out to avoid suspension for the subsequent match against Milan. Lúcio was ultimately suspended anyway, and Internazionale lost the match.

Speaking about San Siro, Materazzi said: "I've played in many important stadiums, like Old Trafford in Manchester and the Bernabéu, but the feeling San Siro gives you is incomparable. Players like me and Balotelli knew how to ignite San Siro with a single action or attack, and now Lautaro does too. He got angry with the referee in the match against Napoli, which energized San Siro and sparked Internazionale's comeback."
