According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, former Internazionale goalkeeper Yann Sommer, now playing for Club Brugge, spoke in an interview about his former club and their upcoming encounter.

"It's a different project, a different business model from Inter. Club Brugge trusts young players, letting them grow in the league and gain experience in the Champions League. The facilities here are comparable to those at top European clubs, making it a great environment for young players, and also for older ones like me."
Speaking about his age of 37 and his career, Sommer said: "I feel great, and my motivation is still very strong. I want to keep improving, training, and giving my all. As long as I can do that, I'll keep playing. Plus, I love goalkeeping, so why should I think about retiring?"
When asked about Aleksandar Stankovic and Leandro Trossard, Sommer stated: "I only briefly crossed paths with Stankovic, but everyone speaks highly of him. As for Trossard, I'm 100% confident he can become an excellent European striker. He's humble, professional, and has the ability to play for a top club."
Asked if he had expected to stay longer at Internazionale and if he was disappointed not to receive a contract extension offer, Sommer said: "No, absolutely not. We talked, and both the club and I decided it was time to part ways. Everything was perfect, and our relationship remains good. I love the Inter shirt and San Siro; it was an incredibly wonderful chapter in my career."
Regarding his standout performances in Milan, Sommer said: "It's hard to say. I'm happy with everything we achieved as a team and what I did as a goalkeeper. For those three years, we were the best team in Italy, and I think Inter still is. Back then, we played build-up play from the back. Inter had many games where the goalkeeper seemed to have little to do, but you had to make many important decisions that many people don't see. They might not be spectacular saves, but they are equally important. I always tried to be consistent."
However, in his third year, he also faced some criticism due to errors. Sommer responded: "That's part of a goalkeeper's job. I'm used to it, and it's the same at Club Brugge. I have enough strength to accept it and move forward."
Speaking about his happiest memories and biggest regrets at Internazionale, Sommer said: "The most unforgettable was that incredible night against Barcelona, and the two celebrations on the team bus in Milan, surrounded by endless love. As for regrets, I try not to think about them. Losing the Champions League final was certainly a huge disappointment, but it doesn't hurt as much now. Paris Saint-Germain had more rest than us, but no one can take away our pride in that journey."
Regarding contact with former Inter teammates, Sommer said: "Akanji and I played together for many years in the national team. I occasionally stay in touch with Calhanoglu, Pavard, and the goalkeeping coaching staff. Inter will always feel like home; for me, playing there never felt like an away game."
Of his successor Josep Martínez, Sommer commented: "He doesn't need my advice. He's a very good goalkeeper with great potential, and he's a great guy. We had a very good relationship in Milan. I've watched some games, and I disagree with the outside comments: he's playing well, but playing for Inter is tough, and the pressure is immense. I'm glad he got this opportunity, and I'm happy he made it to the national team; he deserves it, and Inter has invested a lot in him."
When asked which former teammate surprised him the most, Sommer said: "I really liked Bissuma. He's humble and a fantastic guy. He's very strong, has great physicality, and represents the new generation of Italy. Inter has two top players in Lautaro and Thuram, but they are different types. I believe Bissuma will get more playing time; in some situations, you just need a player like him."
Speaking about the differences between this new Inter team and his former team, Sommer said: "Many new players have arrived; they have quality and experience, but overall, it's still the same tough, European-standard team. Inter has the ability to win the Champions League. For me, facing them again, walking out of the tunnel and seeing San Siro, will be very special and exciting. Those are images I still remember, but my teammates and I will try our best to make it a difficult night for them."
As for how Club Brugge will achieve that, Sommer said: "We have great potential, many quality young players with less experience, but also many internationals, and the whole team has strong character. In the Champions League, details matter, and to beat top teams, you need to have the right match day, but Club Brugge can also create surprises in European competitions."
Before facing his former club, Sommer also sent a message to Inter fans: "Thank you. Thank you again for three wonderful years. Mistakes, victories, unforgettable nights—it was all there. Inter fans are special, and Inter is special. But please forgive me; now I play for Club Brugge, and I want to win at San Siro again."
