Gianluigi Donnarumma has disagreed with suggestions that Manchester City are in a "transition" period under Enzo Maresca this season.

This is City's first campaign without Pep Guardiola at the helm since 2015-16, though Maresca has made a strong start as the Spaniard's successor.

City have won all five competitive games since losing to Arsenal in the Community Shield, including four in the Premier League.

They have won their opening four games in three of the last four Premier League seasons, with Liverpool in 2025-26 and Arsenal this season the only other teams to do so once in that period.

Arsenal are seen as heavy favourites to retain their title, despite City's perfect start to the campaign, with many labelling 2026-27 as a transition season for the club.

Along with Guardiola, Rodri, John Stones and Bernardo Silva also left City, who signed younger replacements in Elliot Anderson, Illiman Ndiaye and Ayyoub Bouaddi.

Donnarumma, however, insisted City are still targeting all the silverware on offer this term.

"I don't really like the word 'transition'," Donnarumma told Sky Sports.

"The club's objective is to win. This team's objective is to win. We'll certainly give everything we can to achieve that.

"We could reach the end of the season having won something, or having won nothing. But what's important is having a winning mentality, going out there and trying to win everything we possibly can.

"We've changed a few players. A few new ones have arrived. They're all top players who are used to playing on the biggest stages, dealing with certain situations, and playing in the Premier League.

"The objective is to get to the end and compete for everything there is to compete for – in addition to the Premier League, there's the Champions League and the two domestic cups."
