Belgium's new head coach, Dutch native Mark van Bommel, delivered a motivational message to the "Red Devils" during his first squad assembly in preparation for UEFA Nations League matches against Italy, France, and Turkey.

He stated that Belgium could have won the FIFA World Cup, which Spain ultimately won. "I think at the FIFA World Cup, with a bit more luck, you would have progressed further. You could have even won the trophy," the Dutch coach told the 28 players called up for his first squad.

Belgium, coached by Frenchman Rudi Garcia, topped their group at the FIFA World Cup held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, drawing 1-1 with Egypt, 0-0 with Iran, and securing a decisive 5-1 victory over New Zealand to advance to the Round of 16.

After entering the knockout stage, the "Red Devils" defeated Senegal 3-2 after extra time in the Round of 16 and defeated the United States 4-1 in the quarterfinals.

Their journey ended in the semifinals against Spain.
