Former Tottenham manager and ex-Ghana coach Chris Hughton believes that as Mohammed Kudus gradually returns to full fitness, there is still much more to expect from the talented winger.

Kudus joined Tottenham from West Ham last summer for £55 million and quickly made an impact, providing 5 assists in his first 7 league matches.

However, the 26-year-old suffered a serious quadriceps injury in January against Fulham, which cut his season short.

As Kudus was not selected for Ghana's Africa Cup of Nations squad, Tottenham hoped he could use a full pre-season to regain match fitness for the new campaign.

But his playing time remained limited, with the club's medical team concerned about aggravating his injury.

After two substitute appearances, Kudus made his first official start in nearly eight months last week, as Tottenham lost 3-1 to Liverpool in the League Cup.

Although he provided an assist for Gallagher's consolation goal, Kudus's overall performance showed he still needs time to regain full match sharpness.

Having been sidelined for so long, Kudus's lack of match fitness is entirely understandable. Hughton, who managed him between February 2023 and January 2024, believes that once Kudus regains his rhythm, he can reignite Tottenham's struggling attack.

Speaking at the unveiling of a Hall of Fame installation at Tottenham Stadium, Hughton said: "I thought he made a good impression when he first arrived last season, but injuries disrupted everything. So he needs to get back to 100% now, but his technical ability is very good."

"He has Premier League experience, and I feel there is more to unlock from him."

Tottenham manager De Zerbi stated that Kudus was temporarily unavailable for Ghana due to the international break and remained at Tottenham's training ground for rehabilitation. De Zerbi also noted that Kudus can play centrally and across both flanks, providing potential solutions to Maddison's ongoing injury troubles.

Kudus amply demonstrated his versatility at West Ham, and Hughton believes Tottenham has an opportunity to explore him in different positions.

Hughton continued: "He played very well at West Ham. Moyes was that kind of manager, and they had Bowen at the time, so he was used in various positions."

"So I think, given his type, he has a lot of flexibility in where he can play on the pitch."

"Overall, he primarily played on the right, cutting in with his left foot. But technically, he is an excellent and physically strong player."
