Joao Pedro has explained why he decided to extend his contract with Chelsea, according to Football.London.

Joao Pedro believes he is "surrounded by the right people" at Chelsea, which is why he chose to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.

Late last month, Chelsea confirmed that the Brazilian international had extended his contract until 2034. Joao Pedro's original contract was set to run until 2033, and Chelsea added another 12 months, primarily to reward him for his excellent performance in his first season with the team and to offer him more favorable contract terms.

Previously, Barcelona had expressed interest in Joao Pedro this summer, but Chelsea quickly informed them that the forward was considered non-transferable after scoring 15 Premier League goals in his first season for the Blues, and the club would not sell him at any price.

Chelsea then acted on their stance by offering the new No. 9 a pay raise and a longer contract. Joao Pedro has now reflected on his decision to commit his future to Chelsea, stating that he believes the environment there will help him continue to grow and achieve success in the coming years.

The 24-year-old wrote on his LinkedIn page: "Joining Chelsea Football Club was a significant moment for me. Looking back at everything that has happened since then, I am proud of the journey we have taken."

However, the Brazilian player missed Chelsea's loss to Brentford on Friday night due to a knee injury. This injury also forced him to withdraw from the Brazilian national team's ongoing international break squad.
