According to Bild, Füllkrug stated that he couldn't explain why he failed to find his form at West Ham and believes that England might not suit his type of player.

Füllkrug joined West Ham in 2024 but failed to live up to expectations following his £27 million transfer. He made 29 appearances for West Ham, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists, before joining AC Milan on loan for the second half of the season. This summer, he returned to his boyhood club Werder Bremen on loan, marking his third spell with the club.
In an interview with Bild, Füllkrug discussed how recurring physical issues affected his performance at West Ham. He said: "You just have to look at my medical record. I suffered a lot, but almost never from muscle injuries." However, he was plagued by muscle problems multiple times during his time at West Ham.
Füllkrug stated: "I really can't say why things went so badly for me at West Ham. England probably isn't very suitable for my type of player, or rather, my type of athlete. Now I just hope that everything stays as it is."
Füllkrug began his professional career at Werder Bremen in 2006. After rejoining Bremen this season, he has scored 3 goals in his last 4 Bundesliga matches and an additional goal in the DFB-Pokal.
