After Ronaldo left the Portuguese national team's training ground on Wednesday, many people expressed their support in the hours that followed. Rio Ferdinand also defended Ronaldo on social media, calling for more respect for him.

Ferdinand played alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United from 2003 to 2009. He posted a video discussing the achievements of the Portuguese captain, with the caption: "Long live Ronaldo! Please respect Ronaldo".

In the video, Ferdinand said: "Before Ronaldo, what level was the Portuguese national team at? What had they achieved? Could they even qualify for the finals of major tournaments? What bothers me a bit is that many people judge him based on his performance over the last three or four years. During that time, regardless of which league he played in, his statistics at his age remain remarkable".
