Arsenal players will wear black armbands in Tuesday's Champions League match against Lille at home, following the death of the club's life president, Ken Friar, at the age of 91.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our life president, Sir Ken Friar, at the age of 92," the Arsenal statement read.

"Since the club's formation in 1886, many inspiring figures have driven us forward, but none have impacted Arsenal Football Club quite like Sir Ken Friar. He dedicated his extraordinary life to the club, a legacy that will never be forgotten. Such an impact is perhaps unmatched."

Friar was born in Islington and began his association with the club in 1946 at the age of 12, working part-time for Arsenal.

He later served as club secretary and managing director, and was appointed life president in September 2020.

In 2011, a bridge connecting the Emirates Stadium and Arsenal tube station was named after him.

A statue also stands at one end of the bridge, depicting a young Friar kicking a ball outside Highbury Stadium.
